Sexual Abuse Of Minors Essay - 863 Words
Sexual abuse of minors is a systemic problem that is not going to disappear. Lawmakers and organizations must be proactive and work together in order to protect the vulnerable young people in the society. Additional clarity and enforcement of laws is needed as well as ethical and moral leadership within organizations that prioritize people rather than worldly success. Leaders from both secular institutions and religious organizations have the duty to take proactive measures to protect minors. Christian leaders have an even higher calling to protect children and lead ethically. Biblical Leadership As part of their vocation, Christian leaders have the responsibility to lead ethically and work for the common good. Leaders must be willing to admit when there is an unethical action taking place and report it. They have the ethical obligation to report abuse even if it means damaging the reputation of their organization. Leaders must lead with conviction and protect others, especially the vulnerable. Leaders must be willing to do the right thing even when it is difficult. Conclusion Jerry Sanduskyââ¬â¢s horrific abuse of young boys over decades will go down in history as one of the greatest scandals in United States history. The leadership of Penn State University along with the University police failed numerous times which enabled Sandusky to prey upon more victims. The administration worked together to cover up the abuse. Still to this day, many alumni and fans support Joe Paterno and claim that he is innocent.
